User Centered Design

From early on Katapult worked with Xtralis and their industry stakeholders to develop a detailed system map to review how the product was used, and by whom, during it’s life.

VESDA-E is a highly technical product, with incredibly advanced sensing and data handling capabilities. Our focus was to create a user interface that was both recognisable and intuitive.

Screens were developed to fit within the overall system map, preliminary graphics were mocked up, beta tested and refined. Once the preferred screens were established the iconography was refined to suit the Android platform for multiple devices.

The result is a contemporary touchscreen interface that allows technicians to interrogate and maintain VESDA-E with ease.

Industrial Design & Technology

The design needed to be contemporary and iconic, yet long lasting and sympathetic to a wide variety of architectural styles. Our solution was to develop a visually clean and simple extruded aluminium form that could be translated through a wide range of products without becoming overpowering.

We worked closely with a team of product engineers to ensure that the enclosure protected the sophisticated componentry whilst remaining easy to assemble and maintain. The solution also needed to be cost effective and flexible for future product upgrades.

The final design has been critically acclaimed within both the fire protection industry and the design sector, winning numerous awards and creating global interest for Xtralis.
