Recently, local Byron Bay client iBark approached Katapult to design and develop an iPhone 6/6s case made from compostable materials. After a sustainable re-focus on their brand values, iBark felt compelled to create a product which had less impact on the planet.
The new iBark Case has been specifically developed to curb the flow of millions of phone cases into the waste cycle. Made almost entirely from Eco-Certified Australian hardwood and a resin developed from non-GMO corn starch, the “BiO” Case will break down in a home compost unit in just nine months.
Katapult was involved right from the beginning, our tasks included;
• Conceptual design of the case.
• CAD detailing.
• Organising prototypes.
• Liaison with the Injection Moulding manufacturer (currently in process).
iBark are launching their new Case on Kickstarter, you can see the campaign here. With our previous experience in crowd funding campaigns, we also helped organise a photo shoot, design and create a Media Release document as well as the Kickstarter campaign images.
It has been refreshing to work with a client who championed sustainability as their key project driver. Creating a product that is both useful and sustainable is a strong motivator for our team, but making sure that the function and appearance delivered a quality UX were also paramount. We hope you like the result.
