Award-winning design: Katapult Design wins over the jury for the “red dot award: product design 2013” to garner the “best of the best” title!
WiTouch Pro by Katapult Design filled the 37-member jury of experts for the “red dot award: product design 2013” with enthusiasm. With its WiTouch Pro, Katapult Design proved its ultimate design strength in an international comparison. As a well-earned prize, Katapult Design was awarded the “red dot: best of the best” for its smart and impressive product creation. 4,662 products were entered in the “red dot award: product design 2013”, but only a very select few were given the honour of being considered for the top award in one of the world’s most renowned competitions.
WiTouch Pro made the cut: with the “red dot: best of the best”, it is guaranteed global visibility. Because on the 1st July 2013, all eyes of the top names in international design will be focused on Essen, Germany. The red dot gala in the Aalto Theater is always the final highlight of the “red dot award: product design”. Over the past years, the awards ceremony has become established as a celebratory ceremony with international guests. WiTouch Pro will then be put on display during a four-week special exhibition in the red dot design museum.
“We are unbelievably proud to receive this prestigious global award,” says Katapult Design Director Nathan Pollock. “Although we are a small design consultancy based in Byron Bay, we strongly believe that our work is of an international standard. Getting the best of the best gives us huge credibility and puts our dynamic team in exalted company.”
Katapult Design was asked by Hollywog, a US based medical device company, to re-imagine what TENS could be and the new WiTouch wireless TENS range is the result. It is an eye-catching product that is revolutionary yet highly functional. It’s simple to use and affordable.
The key to the design is revolutionary use of technology. By working closely with suppliers and testing numerous prototypes, Katapult pushed the boundaries of material use and process capabilities to create a complex dual overmoulded body assembly. This hi-tech component is the heart of the design, allowing us to have highly flexible electrode wings that comfortably hug the body’s contours whilst integrating a super tough structural skeleton that ties the product together and protects the electronics.
WiTouch is not only beautiful on the outside, but it performs like a Formula 1 car on the inside. Our electronics partners, Procept Australia, worked tirelessly with us to develop software and electronic hardware to generate innovative back pain specific waves forms that make the treatment feel amazing.
The development of WiTouch has required Katapult to coordinate a multi-national effort to create a truly global product solution. With the client based in the US, product design, electronics hardware and software development based in Australia and manufacturing sourced in Asia, no stone has been left unturned to ensure product success.
“Katapult Design has brought our product vision to reality with the incredible design, look and feel. Amazing work… The design definitely establishes a new industry standard. It’s truly a global product…” Chuck Thomas, President, Hollywog LLC.
