Historically designers have had a reputation as the people with the coloured markers who bring the wild ideas but more sensible people are needed to deliver the product. This is no longer true and, arguably, was never true (I’ll admit some bias here).
Consulting designers now have the skills and expectation to take a product idea from strategy, right through concept generation and design development to production. More often than not we’re leading the charge, showing the way and providing solutions to tricky design, manufacturing and logistics problems.
It’s so exciting and so incredibly challenging all at the same time because with great opportunity comes huge responsibility. To give you an insight, right now our team is simultaneously working on an early stage strategic workshop for a finance startup, concepts for a hardware trolley, test rigs for a explosives detection device, detailed design and supplier sourcing for a consumer food tech product, production implementation for a range of soft goods and support on several crowdfunding campaigns. All in a day’s work.
