Smash was one of those projects.Working with a motivated, design savvy client and a talented extended team of electronics, software and app engineers, in a rapid development focused on a Kickstarter launch, has been both challenging and rewarding.

Smash needed to be lightweight, robust and unobtrusive. We didn’t want the device to get in the way of playing tennis. It needed to fit different players’ wrists comfortably without being difficult to put on… and it needed an iconic design for this startup to base their publicity around.
A broad range of directions were explored, but in the end a design with a flexible silicone wristband, partially inspired by tennis sweat bands, was chosen as the hero. To ensure the sophisticated electronics was well protected we created a rigid central body from CNC machined aluminium and then added the distinctive hexagonal surface pattern to give it the iconic look.
