Chronic lower back pain makes life hell for millions of people worldwide everyday. Hollywog, a US based medical device start-up, has set out to do something about that. Their mission is to re-imagine existing products and services to better suit peoples needs and the new WiTouch range of wireless TENS devices does exactly that.

Revolution

The key to many medical product design projects is revolutionary use of technology and WiTouch was no different. By working closely with suppliers and testing numerous prototypes, we pushed the boundaries of material use and process capabilities to create a complex dual shot overmoulded body assembly. This hi-tech component is the heart of the design, allowing us to have beautifully flexible electrode wings that hug the bodys contours whilst integrating a super tough structural skeleton that ties the product together and protects the electronics.

Design Process

We adjust the nuances of our design process to suit each particular client and project.

With our experience in medical product design, we knew that there were significant risks associated around technology and cost of goods. To minimise those we developed ideas quickly, created rapid prototypes and tested them on people. We spoke to suppliers from the beginning to determine process viability and rough production costs.

We had successes and failures, but with constant iteration, design refinement and a strong team ethos, all the key product requirements were able to be integrated into an elegant product solution and huge commercial success.
